Port of San Antonio

$22 Million City of San Antonio project partnered with Port of San Antonio to improve the drainage on the old Kelly Airforce Base. Due to historic activities, contaminated soils and ground water are suspected to be encountered, overseen by the US Air Force and their decontamination team. The project includes 8,325 LF of multi-box cast-in-place culverts throughout a concrete lined drainage channel requiring over 4,500 CY of concrete, nearly 3 miles of new sanitary sewer infrastructure (15,000+ ft), 2,768 LF of domestic water, gas relocations, and two new 9-conduit duct banks for current and future development. Existing groundwater pumps and monitoring wells are scattered throughout the site, requiring careful construction around them to prevent damage or shifting. A new lift station will be installed prior to demolition of the existing and tied into the Air Force’s SCADA system, which controls the base’s groundwater collection and disposal system. No material will leave the base due to contamination concerns, and concrete collected from demolitions will be crushed and recycled for use on future projects.
